Conventions of Film openings

Establishes the main character/s and rough location and time period

Entices the audience to continue watching

Establishes the genre through sound, mise-en-scene and usually the title as well

Usually starts with equilibrium

A key event will occur - this will set the basis for the plot

Film openings will always show logos or identification of the production companies and often the distribution companies involved in the production of the media text.

In opening scenes of films there is usually sound. Non-diegetic and diegetic sound. Non- diegetic is the most common as it helps set the scene for the audience and conveys the type of genre and what to expect in the film
